| Jerry Colangelo, Chairman,
Phoenix Suns and Managing Director, USA
Basketball One of the top executives in
professional sports, Jerry Colangelo offers a
unique mix of business expertise, professional
savvy and philanthropy. His contributions
across the board are unparalleled, and he’ll
share on all of it this February at the Church
Solutions Conference & Expo in Phoenix.
Colangelo arrived in the Valley of the Sun
in 1968 to take over the expansion Phoenix
Suns NBA franchise as the youngest general
manager in professional sports and has since
guided the Suns into one of the most
successful organizations in the NBA. He
brought Major League Baseball to the Valley in
1998 and was chairman of the 2001 World
Champion Arizona Diamondbacks. Colangelo was
the key element in facilitating the move of
the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets to the Valley of the
Sun to become the Phoenix Coyotes. And he was
on the founding committee for the WNBA, which
included the Phoenix Mercury among its
inaugural teams in 1997.
Colangelo’s leadership in the NBA helped
earn him a spot in the Naismith Memorial
Basketball Hall of Fame, as well as being
named among The Sporting News most powerful
people in sports. He’s currently serving as
managing director of the USA Basketball Men’s
Senior National Team.
Colangelo’s commitment to the Valley
transcends sports, as he is well-known as one
of the city’s most active community leaders.
In the past, he’s served as president of
Valley Big Brothers, chairman of the board of
the Christian Businessmen’s Club, and campaign
chair for United Way.
His contributions to the community helped
transform downtown Phoenix into an active,
thriving district. The creation of major
sporting venues and theaters continues to
bring an influx of revenue, jobs and people to
the area, as well as providing a location for
family and corporate events, concerts,
Broadway plays, and professional sporting
championships.
Author of a book*
titled, “How You Play the Game: Lessons for
Life from the Billion-Dollar Business of
Sports,” Colangelo offers unique insight into
business, community-building and life. Join us
for a time of encouragement and strategic
motivation as we learn how Colangelo’s faith
has guided the way for his accomplishments.
Jerry Colangelo’s keynote address will take
place Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m.
*Proceeds of the book sales went to Young
Life of Arizona, Phoenix Suns Charities and
Arizona Diamondbacks Charities.
